Getting There
A bus from Sintra station and then a 40-minute walk, or a taxi.

Why Go

Eight friars founded the convent in 1560 among the boulders of the Sintra hills, and the community lived here in poverty until religious orders were abolished in Portugal. Its doors are so low you have to stoop, and cork keeps out the damp.
