Why Go

It's the best-preserved medieval royal residence in Portugal, lived in from at least the early 15th century to the late 19th. The cone-shaped chimneys rise above its huge kitchen. Inside, the Hall of Magpies, the Swan Room and the Coat of Arms Room, with its domed ceiling of noble crests and walls of blue tiles, are the highlights.
