Why Go

Aigai was the first capital of the Macedonian kingdom, and in 1977 archaeologists found unlooted royal tombs beneath its great mound, among them the one believed to be that of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The museum built inside the mound shows the tomb fronts and the gold casket, wreaths and armor found within. The restored palace of Aigai stands nearby.
