Why Go

Pope Julius II began the collection in 1506 with the newly found statue of Laocoön. Today's route runs for kilometers through courtyards and galleries: the Belvedere sculptures, the Egyptian and Etruscan rooms, the painted Gallery of Maps and the four Raphael Rooms, before the Sistine Chapel.

Tips

  • Take the first slot of the day and head straight for the Sistine Chapel, then walk back through the galleries.
