Ford's Theatre

The playhouse where John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln in 1865. The presidential box is still decorated with flags, and Lincoln died across the street in the Petersen House.

Why Go

A museum below the theater holds Booth's derringer. Tickets for the timed visit are free in person but go early, and there's a small online fee. It's still a working theater, with shows in the evenings.
