Why Go
Built in the 1560s for the second Mughal emperor, this was India's first great garden tomb, with the red sandstone and white marble, double dome and four-part garden the Taj Mahal later perfected.
A long restoration has brought back its water channels and tilework. The grounds also hold Isa Khan's older tomb and the graves of many Mughals.
