A short walk from Eleftherias Square in the center.

Why Go

The museum holds almost everything found at Knossos, Phaistos and the other Minoan sites, laid out by period across two floors. The highlights include the Phaistos Disc, stamped with symbols no one has deciphered; the faience snake goddesses; the gold bee pendant from Malia; and the frescoes from Knossos, among them the Prince of the Lilies, the bull leapers and the lady nicknamed La Parisienne.

Tips

  • See it after Knossos: the rooms and frescoes make far more sense once you've walked the palace.
