A glacial lake ringed by spruce forest and peaks, at the heart of the best-known Tatra resort.
The resort grew up around a hunting lodge built on the shore in 1872. A level path circles the lake in under an hour, with the ski jumps of the 1970 world championships above and the peaks reflected in the water. The lake is fed by springs, with no visible outflow, and stays frozen about 155 days a year.
