Why Go

King Casimir the Great founded Kazimierz as a separate town in 1335, and for 500 years it was a center of Jewish life. The Old Synagogue, from the 15th century, is now a museum of Jewish history, and the small Remah Synagogue still holds services beside its old cemetery.

The Nazis drove out and murdered the Jews of Kraków, and the quarter was left to decay. It came back to life in the 1990s, and in early summer the Jewish Culture Festival fills its streets.
