The square of the wartime ghetto, with a memorial of empty chairs and the pharmacy whose owner helped its people.
In 1941 the Nazis forced the Jews of Kraków into a walled ghetto in Podgórze, and its people were deported from this square to the death camps. Seventy bronze chairs stand on it now, a memorial to the furniture left behind.
On the corner, the Eagle Pharmacy was run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the only Pole allowed to live in the ghetto, who hid and helped many; it's now a museum. Fragments of the ghetto wall survive on Lwowska Street.
