Why Go

The loch reaches about 230 meters deep, and peat in the water keeps it dark. Sightings of a monster became a sensation in 1933, after a new road opened along the shore; the most famous photo, from 1934, was later revealed as a hoax. Cruises run from the north end of the loch, from near Drumnadrochit and from Fort Augustus, some stopping at the castle.
