About 5 minutes by car east of downtown.

Why Go

Sam Phillips opened the studio in 1950. 'Rocket 88', recorded here in 1951, is often called the first rock and roll record, and an 18-year-old Elvis made his first recording here in 1953. Tours end in the studio itself, still in use at night, where you can hold the microphone Elvis used.
