Why Go

Begun in 1664, the palace grew into a long baroque front facing a canal. Inside are painted halls, the Gallery of Beauties of Ludwig I and the room where King Ludwig II was born; the carriage museum holds his gilded sleighs.

The park has hunting lodges, including the silver-and-blue Amalienburg.
