Why go

The observation deck on top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza has three levels of terraces, the highest fully open to the sky. It's the best view in town of the Empire State Building, and it looks straight up the length of Central Park. Rockefeller Center below is an Art Deco complex of plazas and shops, with the skating rink and, from late November, the giant Christmas tree.

Tips

  • St. Patrick's Cathedral is across Fifth Avenue, and MoMA is three blocks north.
  • Sunset time slots sell out first; book ahead.
