Why go
A freight railway built above the streets in the 1930s, the High Line closed in 1980 and reopened as a park in 2009. It runs above the West Side from the Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards, with wildflower plantings, art installations, benches and views down the cross streets and over the Hudson River.
Tips
- Walk north from the southern end, and stop for food at Chelsea Market at 15th Street.
- Stairs and elevators are spread along the route if you only want part of it.
