Why go
Finished in 1931, the Empire State Building was the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years, and it's still the skyscraper most people picture when they think of New York. The 86th floor has an open-air deck that wraps all the way around; the 102nd floor adds a higher, glassed-in view. Exhibits on the 2nd and 80th floors cover its construction and its film appearances.
Tips
- Check the visibility forecast before you go; on a cloudy day you may see nothing.
- Choose one big deck rather than paying for several. Top of the Rock is the alternative if you want the Empire State Building in your view.
