Why Go

Picasso, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec lived and worked on this hill, and painters still set up their easels on the Place du Tertre. At its top, the basilica of Sacré-Cœur, finished in 1914, looks out over the whole of Paris.

Walk down its quieter back streets past the last vineyard in Paris and the old windmills.

Tips

  • Beware of people tying bracelets on your wrist at the foot of the steps; walk on.
