Why Go

Finished in 1901 after three decades of work, City Hall was briefly the tallest habitable building in the world. Its granite and marble walls carry some 250 sculptures, and the bronze William Penn on top of the tower is the largest statue on any building. An elevator climbs to an observation deck just below Penn's feet, and the building's ornate interior rooms can be seen on guided tours.

Tips

  • The tower holds only a few people at a time and has closed for maintenance; check the City Hall Visitor Center before you go.
  • Dilworth Park on the west side has a café, a summer fountain and winter skating.
