The curved end of a Roman stadium for 30,000 spectators, uncovered beneath the city's main shopping street.
The stadium was built in the 2nd century, in the time of Emperor Hadrian, and ran 240 meters under what's now the main street. Only its northern curve, with marble seats, is open to view in the square; the rest lies under the shops.
