The walls ring the Old Town; Kiek in de Kök is below Toompea, near Freedom Square.

Why Go

Most of the 13th- to 16th-century wall still stands, with red-roofed towers. A stretch near the Nunne, Sauna and Kuldjala towers has a walkway you can climb in summer, and the Viru Gate's twin towers frame the main entrance to the Old Town.

Kiek in de Kök, an artillery tower whose name means 'peek into the kitchen', has a museum and guided tours of the passages dug under the bastions in the 17th century.
