In the north of the Lower Town, near the Fat Margaret tower.

Why Go

Around 1500 its spire reached 159 meters, and it is thought to have been the tallest building in the world from 1549 to 1625. Lightning burned it several times; today it's 124 meters tall.

Steep, narrow stairs climb to a walkway around the tower with the best view of the Old Town's walls, roofs and the port.

Tips

  • The stairs are steep and narrow; not for small children or anyone afraid of heights.
