Why Go

Soviet bombing gutted the church in 1944, and it was rebuilt as a museum and concert hall. Its treasures include carved altarpieces and Notke's Danse Macabre from the late 15th century, a painted frieze of Death leading popes, kings and peasants in a dance, the only surviving medieval one of its kind painted on canvas.
