Why Go

Built by Louis IX in the 1240s to hold the Crown of Thorns, the upper chapel has 15 great windows that tell more than a thousand Bible stories in colored glass.

A combined ticket covers the Conciergerie next door, the medieval palace where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution.

Tips

  • Come on a sunny day, around midday, when the light pours through the glass.
