Why Go

Finished in 1762, the fountain shows the sea god Oceanus riding a shell chariot over tumbling rocks. The coins thrown in, more than a million euros a year, go to charity.

Since February 2026, standing on the steps at the water's edge costs €2 from 9 am to 10 pm. The view from the square above is free, and so is the basin early in the morning and late at night.

Tips

  • Come early in the morning or late at night for room to breathe.
  • Sitting on the rim or putting your feet in the water brings a fine.
