Why Go

Completed in 1935, the monument to Victor Emmanuel II climbs the side of the Capitoline Hill above Piazza Venezia. Romans have long mocked it as the wedding cake, but it holds Italy's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, guarded day and night.

A glass lift runs up to the roof terraces, with a view over the Forum and across the city.
