Why Go

Its collection began with ancient bronzes given to the people of Rome in 1471, and it opened to the public in 1734. Highlights include the she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, the original bronze Marcus Aurelius on horseback and the giant marble head of Constantine.

A passage under the square runs through the Tabularium, ancient Rome's record office, to a gallery that looks straight down the length of the Forum.
