Why Go

St. Rupert founded the abbey around 696, making it one of the oldest monasteries in the German-speaking world. Its Romanesque church was redecorated in rococo style in the 18th century.

In the cemetery, the catacombs are cave chapels cut into the Mönchsberg cliff. The cemetery was the model for the set of the von Trapps' escape in The Sound of Music.
